New Zealand is currently funding multi-year projects worth of NZ$ 44 million in Vietnam, focused on areas of New Zealand’s comparative advantages that align with Vietnamese Government’s priorities – agriculture, human resource development (HRD), and disaster risk management (DRM).

Highlighted projects include an innovative agriculture partnership between Viet Nam’s Southern Horticultural Research Institute (SOFRI) and NZ research institute Plant and Food Research (PFR), and a dam safety initiative where a New Zealand engineering company (Damwatch Services) and crown research institute (GNS Science) are partnering with the Ha Noi Water Resources University.

New Zealand provides 30 post-graduate scholarships to Viet Nam (NZ$ 2.5 million) annually and continues to provide English language training for officials and senior officials, with over 420 Vietnamese officials having spent time in New Zealand participating in the programme since 1990.
